HAPPY INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR UNIVERSAL ACCESS TO INFORMATION 2025!!!

Every year on the 28th September, we join the rest of the world to celebrate the right to information. This year, UNESCO has set the theme “Ensuring Access to Environmental Information in the Digital Age”, which focuses on the vital importance of timely, comprehensive, and cross-border access to environmental information in an increasingly digital world. Environmental data, encompassing climate change, pollution, biodiversity, and disaster risks, transcends national borders, necessitating collaborative, transparent, and innovative global sharing of information. This theme also highlights how digital technologies and open data platforms can enhance public access, foster transparency, and empower citizens and stakeholders to participate meaningfully in environmental governance and sustainable development.

Why does this matter to us here in Seychelles? Because information about our environment helps to protect our islands, safeguard our people and make better decisions for a more sustainable future. Empowered citizens makes well informed decisions and holds government accountable.

Let’s build a future where information is accessible to all. Let’s stay connected and work together for a more sustainable Seychelles.
